Private budgeting with European bank sync — self-hosted or in the Cloud.
Runs on Debian/Ubuntu-based servers — all dependencies installed automatically
Live bank connections through Enable Banking, a licensed account-information provider (AISP) under PSD2 — you approve access in your own bank’s app, and Balance never sees or stores your login. Automatic sync is built and switches on publicly around ~250 paying members; self-hosters can turn it on today with their own free key. CAMT.053, MT940, CSV and PDF import cover everything else, fully deduplicated.
Envelope budgeting, category momentum and monthly pacing in one view. Know your trajectory with a glance, not a spreadsheet.
End-of-month projections from a robust rolling baseline. Budget-overrun warnings and low-balance alerts — only when it matters.
Balance auto-detects subscriptions and fixed costs, tracks billing cycles and contract end dates, and warns you before a notice deadline slips by.
A GitHub-style activity heatmap of your daily spending across the full year. Spot your busiest seasons, quietest months and peak spending days instantly.
Generate polished XLSX or PDF reports with monthly breakdowns, category summaries and income-vs-expenses charts. Schedule them for automatic monthly delivery.
Balance applies a multi-stage ML pipeline to classify every transaction. When confidence is low, uncertain items surface in a dedicated review queue — so you stay in control without drowning in noise.
Track ETFs, stocks, crypto and real estate alongside your bank accounts. Balance fetches live market prices for tickers and crypto and recalculates your net worth automatically; property and other manual assets you value yourself.
Self-hosted Balance ships with the full feature set out of the box — every feature, no add-ons, no paywalls.
Live connections via Enable Banking for NL, BE, DE and 20+ countries.
Drag in any statement; parsed, deduplicated and merged automatically.
Every transaction has a stable key, so syncing twice never creates duplicates.
Own-account transfers are detected and kept out of your spending totals.
Photo or PDF receipts; amount and date extracted and linked to the transaction.
A regex rule engine with priority ordering that learns your overrides permanently.
ML suggestions with full explainability — confidence scores and the exact rule.
Ask anything about your money in plain language, answered from local data.
Notes, tags and attachments; split one payment across multiple categories.
Mass-categorise with the rule engine, breeze through a fast guided review sweep, and reset up to 5,000 manual overrides in one action.
All accounts and investments in one chart, with daily ECB FX rates.
Stocks, ETFs, crypto, pensions and real estate — all valued in EUR.
Month-by-month envelopes with carry-over. Real budget accounting, not pie charts.
Set a target and deadline; Balance calculates the pace and tracks you to it.
A 6-month rolling baseline with outlier resistance and income smoothing.
Auto-detects recurring charges with billing cycles and renewal warnings.
See all scheduled and recurring charges ahead of time, nothing by surprise.
A GitHub-style heatmap of daily spending — busiest days and quiet periods.
Budget overruns, low balance and expiring bank tokens, surfaced before they bite.
Push alerts and monthly reports to Slack, Telegram, Discord, email and 60+ channels.
Drag-and-drop P&L, cashflow and net-worth statements, exported as multi-page PDF.
Run the whole app on your own hardware under AGPL-3.0 — no telemetry, no account, no artificial limits.
Fernet-encrypted .bkp archives, safe to store on any drive without exposing data.
Authenticator apps and hardware security keys (passkeys) built in from day one.
Install on phone or desktop in seconds with a fluid, native-app feel.
English, Dutch, German, French and 18 more — with a live locale switcher.
A documented REST API to automate syncs, pull reports or integrate your tools.
A carefully crafted dark theme using warm dark tones — easy on the eyes for late-night budget sessions.
Every feature is in both — the only difference is who runs the server.
The whole app, no feature held back. AGPL-3.0, yours to run on your own hardware. Bring your own free Enable Banking key for bank sync, or stick to manual entry and imports.
Hosting, updates and encrypted backups handled for you, on the same open-source code.
Balance Cloud is zero-knowledge: your device encrypts your budget, the sealed result is stored on the server, and the key never leaves your device — so the server holds your data but can’t read it. The one honest exception is bank sync: the worker briefly handles transactions in the clear before sealing them, and Balance never keeps them in readable form. To avoid even that, self-host with your own key.
Payments run through Mollie (iDEAL, SEPA). There is no free hosted tier — the free version is the self-hosted one, and it is the full app. Mint was free because it ran on ads and referral offers; Balance charges a fair price instead — no ads, no data sales, ever.
An honest overview. Every tool has its place — this helps you choose.
